Yarmouth mill
Did you know that the current Yarmouth Tide Mill was built in 1793 and is now holiday apartments.
This mill was built by William Porter of Newport a colourful character who couldn't read or write.
Steam power was introduced later but before 1845.
The remains of the old brick built chimney can be seen at the north east corner of the building.
The mill causeway was built in 1664 to seal off Thorley Haven which was silted up.
Before this mill there was probably a wooden one.
